Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information PickKoala collects when you visit, what we do with it, and the choices you have.

PickKoala Media (“PickKoala”, “we”, “us”) operates pickkoala.com. This policy describes our practices regarding personal data for visitors in the United States, the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and elsewhere.

1. Information we collect

We aim to collect as little as possible. Depending on how you use the site, we may process:

  • Information you give us. If you email us or use the contact form, we receive your name, email address and the content of your message.
  • Newsletter subscription data. If you subscribe, we store your email address and the date you subscribed so we can send the newsletter and honour unsubscribe requests.
  • Technical data. Standard server and analytics information such as pages viewed, approximate region, referring site, browser type and device type.
  • Cookie and similar data. Small identifiers set by us or by third parties we work with, described in section 5.

We do not knowingly collect information from children under 16. This site is not directed at children, and we do not sell products to them.

2. How we use information

  • To respond to enquiries and corrections
  • To send the newsletter to people who asked for it
  • To understand which articles are useful, so we can improve them
  • To keep the site secure, prevent abuse and fix technical faults
  • To measure whether outbound affiliate links are being used, which is how the site is funded
  • To comply with legal obligations

Where the GDPR applies, we rely on the following bases: consent for non-essential cookies and newsletter emails; legitimate interests for security, site analytics and improving our content; and contract or legal obligation where applicable.

4. Who we share data with

We do not sell your personal information. We share limited data with:

  • Hosting and content delivery providers that serve this website and keep it online.
  • Analytics providers that report aggregated traffic statistics.
  • Email service providers that deliver the newsletter.
  • Affiliate networks and retailers, which receive a click identifier when you follow an outbound commercial link, so that a resulting purchase can be attributed. See our affiliate disclosure.
  • Authorities, where we are legally required to disclose information.

5. Cookies and similar technologies

We use a small number of cookie categories:

  • Strictly necessary — required for the site to function, such as security and consent state. These cannot be switched off.
  • Analytics — help us count visits and see which pages are read, in aggregate.
  • Affiliate tracking — set when you click a retail link, so the retailer can credit a purchase to this site. These do not change the price you pay.

You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings, and you can refuse non-essential cookies without losing access to any content. See our Cookie Notice for detail.

6. How long we keep data

Contact emails are kept for as long as needed to resolve the query and for a reasonable period afterwards. Newsletter records are kept until you unsubscribe, plus a short suppression record so we do not email you again by mistake. Aggregated analytics data is retained in a form that does not identify individuals.

7. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to the processing of your personal data, to withdraw consent, and to data portability. California residents have rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including the right to know, delete and opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information — we do not sell personal information as that term is defined.

To exercise a right, email [email protected]. We will verify your request and respond within the timeframe required by applicable law.

8. Security

We use encrypted connections (HTTPS), access controls and reputable service providers. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we limit what we collect in the first place to reduce that risk.

9. International transfers

Some of our service providers are located in the United States. Where we transfer personal data from the EEA or UK, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy to reflect changes in our practices or the law. The “last updated” date at the top will change when we do, and material changes will be highlighted on the site.
